What you can do for transgender people?

As you may have known, transgender people are faced with many difficulties and unjust. Fortunately, the supporting voice for them is also on the rise. If you are one of the ladyboy allies, here are something you can do for them.

Being outspoken. This means you should speak up for them when you are in school and company or other bigger communities. Cry for the right for transgender people. If someone use the wrong pronouns, correct them politely. Generally speaking, challenge the words, jokes and conversations that are against transgender people. Speak up for transgender people might be terrifying, but being out open to support transgender people can show them that they are accepted. It can also encourage other allies to do the same and add more voices to this group and help change the perspective of some people.

Support the discriminated transgender people. When shemales are being discriminated or when they make an appeal to local authorities, they might feel not supported. No matter they complaint or not, you should be supportive in life anyway.

Think about how to use gendered language. Do you still use “ladies and gentlemen” to greet with people? Are you referring to every colleague as “guys”? Is there any friend of yours like to tell gendered jokes? There are transgender people are used to called by “lady” or “gentlemen”, but you need to ask and make sure of it. Think about changing your habits. Do not make assumption about other people’s gender or pronouns and encourage your friends to do so as well. This might take time and effort, but it is a very important principles to be their ally.

Get to know the policies that concerns transgender people. Is there any policy to protect transgender people in your neighborhood? Know the challenges facing transgender people and the object of their advocators are very important. If you feel comfortable with it, you can even help promote the changes and policies.

Start to make small changes in your company or school. Reconsider the gender in forms and documents. When you file a form or document, think about if it must include gender. Sometimes, we tacitly approved requesting for gender without thinking about why and how to use it. If you do need to requiring gender information, you can think about letting them fill out what they want instead of displaying several boxes with “male” or “female” in it to let people to tick.

Make sure everyone has the bathroom that they feel comfortable and safe. Encourage people to use bathroom that are in compliance with their sexual identity, but not what it says in their ID card. What is more, provide neutral and private bathroom.

Promote support and tolerate. Accepting the existence of transgender people is a very good start, but we can do more.
